These four-seat convertibles will cure your spring fever

The darkest days of winter are behind us, which means it’s time to start thinking about sunshine. Nothing exemplifies the carefree spirit of spring and summer like taking a long drive in a convertible. Putting the top down, feeling the wind in your hair and looking at the wide-open sky above you is one of the ultimate driving experiences.

However, if you want to cruise with a crowd, finding a convertible that can fit more than one passenger can be tricky. Many convertibles have only two seats, or back seats that are so tiny they’re virtually non-existent. While it’s true that driving in a convertible is a great romantic activity, sometimes you want to be able to take friends or family along for the ride. Here are five of the best four-seater convertibles, so you can take your whole crew on the road.

Ford Mustang

This classic American muscle car is iconic for a reason: it’s a joy to drive and perfect for people who want to hear the V8 engine roar. While the Mustang has a fairly small back-seat, it is roomier than seating found in the nearest competition, the Chevy Camaro. The Mustang’s spacious truck and center console that locks automatically when you park the car with the top down mean that all passengers will have plenty of storage.

The MINI

If the Mustang is the jock of the four-seat convertible class, the MINI is the nerd. However, this car is hiding a lot of talent, with responsive handing and great power. Of course, its classic Euro-chic styling is appealing to drivers who are looking for something different from the typical convertible offerings. Despite its name, the MINI is larger than it once was, and with enough wrangling, owners can even fit two car seats in the back, making it a great convertible option for families.

The Chevy Camaro

The Camaro is a top-rated sports car and convertible that has the same muscle car appeal as the Mustang. It is priced slightly lower than the Mustang, making it a good option for drivers who are trying to get the most for their money. Although the Camaro does have four seats, the back seats are very small, so this car is a good option for drivers who will only need to use the back seat occasionally. What you sacrifice in space in the second row, however, you’ll make up for with a powerful engine and spacious front seats.

The Volkswagen Beetle

The punch-buggy is another well-known car that looks great as a convertible. Like the MINI, the Bug has back seats that are relatively spacious by convertible standards, rather than the second-row seating that can feel like an afterthought in some sports cars. Beetles that were manufactured in 2016 or later are full of modern conveniences like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto that complement its retro look.

The Audi A5

If you have a taste for luxury, the Audi A5 is the perfect four-seat convertible. The A5 is a top-rated sedan that will meet all your needs with a powerful engine and beautiful interior. With all-wheel drive, a relatively spacious back seat and a superior safety rating, the A5 ticks all the boxes. Of course, you’ll pay a premium for this level of luxury.
