The four best all-wheel drive Audi vehicles

Audi is well-known for their sophisticated Quattro all-wheel-drive system. They’re more than just a German Subaru though, offering world-class style, luxurious interiors, and cutting edge tech features. If you’re shopping luxury, you should strongly consider a look at Audi.

A3 [1]

The A3 is one of the most affordable ways to get into an Audi, but it is still a worthy competitor to the segment leading BMW 3 Series [2]. A 1.8-liter engine and front-wheel drive are standard in the base model, but the 2.0-liter turbo with Quattro all-wheel drive is a lot more fun. Steering is precise and nimble at low speeds, but sporty at highway speeds. The A3’s handling is capable and competitive with the smaller BMW 2 Series [3], but minus that car’s harshness. The interior is the most German looking of anything from Mercedes or BMW, with clean lines and quality materials. Gauge layout and center tablet-like display are great features, as center display has sharp resolution and beautiful design. The large moon roof comes also standard, offering an airy feel to the cabin. Despite the compact size, you can load up with active safety features. Adults won’t love the rear headroom, but up front it is excellent.

S5 [4]

Based on the mid-size A5, but the “S” in the grille stands for fun (or, more likely, “sport.”). The S5 is a sophisticated muscle car with everyday usability. Seat comfort and interior design are top notch, with excellent outward visibility. The gauge cluster behind the steering wheel is all one digital piece called a “virtual cockpit” that displays info or gorgeous Google Earth maps for nav. Outside, even a decade old S5 has presence, with an athletic design similar to a BMW 435i [5] or Cadillac ATS [6], but the S5 doesn’t shout it at you like its competitors. A similar size and driving experience can be found in the Lexus RC [7], but the Audi has an edge in comfort. Under that sculpted hood, a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 provides 333 horsepower (it’s turbo and 354 horsepower for 2018), attached to a 6-speed manual or even faster shifting 7-speed dual clutch transmission. Need more? The high-end RS5 has a 4.2-liter V8 belting out 450 horsepower. That makes the S5 a luxury cruiser that can hang with a Corvette [8].

Q3 [9]

With great features attractive looks in the busy subcompact SUV class, the Audi Q3 proves it’s possible to downsize without downgrading. The interior design takes an upscale yet conservative layout, with high quality materials and excellent fit and finish. The 12-way power front seats deliver solid support and superior comfort for the class. Rear passengers will love the headroom and leg room. A turbo 2.0-liter and 6-speed auto are pretty much mandatory for this class, and 200 horsepower delivers mid-pack acceleration. Even though it’s a crossover, the Q3 is as nimble as the A3 in highway corners and parking lots. The smooth ride, quiet cabin, responsive steering and sporty brakes make it feel like Audi benchmarked a BMW X1 [10] here, but the Audi takes the lead on features. Standard features include leather upholstery, HIDs, heated front seats, and a huge moonroof. The Q3 is your ride for value, comfort, and good looks.

Q5 [11]

The right sized SUV, the Q5 is the luxury ride that can do it all. Inside you’ll find a sharp, contemporary design in the interior, but useful and intuitive control layout. The seats, front and back, are long-distance road trip worthy, with even the rear seats sliding and reclining for max comfort. The cargo area stores 26.8 cu/ft of your stuff, and lowering the rear seats nets you over 60 cu/ft. Under the hood is another 2.0-liter turbo four cylinder, this time making 252 horsepower to haul around the bigger SUV, and shifting duties are handled by a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. This potent combo provides lively acceleration when pushed, and allows a tow rating of over 4,000 pounds when properly equipped, letting you tow another Q5 behind you. Standard features include 10-speaker audio system, power liftgate, 3-zone climate control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Audi’s Pre-Sense active safety suite.
