Performance Features

The 2018 911 is the first one to come with the GT2 title since 2011. That earlier model came with an amazing engine that produced 620 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. It paved the way for Porsche to bring out the 2018 911 with 700 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque.

Porsche based the 2018 model’s engine on the 3.8-liter flat-six that comes with the Turbo S. This is a system that mists distilled water over the engine’s intercoolers to decrease the intake-air temperatures. It also comes with a titanium exhaust system that’s lightweight to increase the vehicle’s speed.

Porsche included a customized version of its PDK dual-clutch seven-speed automatic transmission in the GT2. You’ll love it because it allows power to be transmitted using constant traction. The earlier GT2 RS featured a manual transmission along with lightweight construction to deliver a shock-inspiring performance. Likewise, Porsche designed the 2018 model to be extremely light. According to the car company, the 2018 911 weighs just 3,241 pounds when it has a full tank of gas, which is an estimated 300 pounds less than the Turbo S coupe.

The carmaker reports that the 2018 GT2 RS is capable of reaching a speed of 60 miles per hour in a mere 2.7 seconds. It can also travel as fast as 211 miles per hour.

To ensure that the GT2’s wheels stay firmly on the ground and facing the right way, Porsche equipped the 2018 911 with a racing chassis, one that includes rear-axle steering in addition to a PSM system that comes with stability control. The vehicle model also has a Sport mode, ensuring that you’ll have access to the speed and power that you want.

If you invest in a 2018 GT2, you’ll be driving a sports car with staggered-size rubber tires. On the front, Porsche added 20-inch tires while the back comes with tires that measure 21 inches. The tires are also ultra-high-performance ones. To ensure that you can stop on a dime, the car company equipped the car with carbon-ceramic brake rotors. These are a standard feature.

The base model will offer you plenty of comforts and amenities.

The Carrera 4 trim comes with all-wheel drive. It also includes bigger rear fenders that measure 1.7 inches wider than other trims.

If you opt for a Turbo model, then you’ll have a vehicle that comes with rear fenders that are a bit wider than the base version. In fact, they measure 2.8 inches wider. This trim model features all-wheel drive and center-lock wheels. With a Turbo S, you’ll have carbon-ceramic brakes and adaptive LED headlights.

Porsche equipped the GT3 model with features like a six-speed manual gearbox, an underbody treatment that improves performance and active engine mounts. It also comes with rear-wheel steering, a mechanical limited-slip differential and a track analysis app for racing.

The Exterior

The exterior of the GT2 RS includes modified paneling compared to earlier versions. While the sports car’s exterior design is reminiscent of the 2011 model, the 2018 version is more attractive and streamlined. The front fender vents give the vehicle an attractively aggressive look, and the roof is coated in magnesium. Porsche constructed the mirror caps, decklid and rear section in carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic. There is also a huge rear spoiler over the car’s engine cover to enhance its downforce.

If you want a lighter model to increase the vehicle speed, buy a GT2 that has the Weissach package. This option decreases the weight of the vehicle by 40 pounds. Porsche does this by switching the standard wheels to lightweight magnesium ones. This package also expands the amount of carbon fiber added to the car by using anti-roll bars, a roof panel and attendant coupling rods made from the same lighter material.

The Interior

The inside of the 2018 GT2 includes a two-seat design. The vehicle’s two seats are supported by carbon fiber, and they are similar to the seats that you’ll find in the GT3 and Porsche’s 918 Spyder. Porsche chose leather and microsuede in red and black for the GT2.

With the GT2, you’ll enjoy luxuries like the car company’s infotainment system that comes with navigation. You can also get one with Porsche’s Chrono package; this includes a dash clock, a display function that you can use with the PCM system and a lap trigger for the vehicle’s external track recording unit.

When you step on the gas pedal, the speed increase is smooth and seamless. You’re unlikely to notice any turbo lag.

Porsche equipped the vehicle with sensitive brakes. You’ll appreciate them when you’re traveling at a high speed and you need to come to a quick stop, but you’ll likely have to adjust how you brake to manage their sensitivity. When the car was panic-stopped on a track while traveling at 60 miles per hour, it stopped in just 96 feet. There are few cars out there these days capable of stopping as quickly as the 2018 GT2.

The car company designed the sports car with steering that is well-weighted. Rear steering will help you park the car and complete low-speed operations. When you’re making high-speed direction changes, you’ll find that the car makes them easily.
