The Audi A4 Allroad received a major upgrade in 2017 to give it sleeker lights and grille. Models from 2017 borrow heavily from the A4 sedan, and they have a lighter chassis, making them more fuel efficient. The wagon offers an impressive and innovative cabin with high quality materials. Newer models, from 2017, have a revised MMI infotainment system with an-easy to use controller and a dash-top screen.
The extra ground clearance on the Audi A4 Allroad allows you to venture off the road. Audi offers a long list of standard features in the A4 Allroad, including:
- Antilock brakes
- Rearview camera
- Side curtain airbags
- Audi PreSense Basic system with seatbelt pre-tensioners and emergency window and door closing

This system gives you access to Audi emergency assistance, automatic crash notification, and stolen vehicle locating. Other features available in higher trims or as packages include lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high beams.
Available Models
The Audi A4 Allroad is a four-door wagon that seats five. Its premium interior and spacious cabin make it an impressive choice. The wagon is available in three trim levels:

- Prestige
Premium
The base trim features 18-inch wheels, LED running lights, underbody skid plates, automatic wipers, LED running lights, and xenon headlights. Audi further adds luxury features, including a panoramic sunroof, heated mirrors, cruise control, and selectable drive modes. With the standard adaptive suspension, the wagon allows you to drive on rutted dirt roads with ease. The roof rails complete the look of the car.
Inside, even the base trim still offers premium materials. The leather upholstery and the interior ambient lighting make the car’s interior look luxurious. Other interior features include:
- Tri-zone automatic climate control
- Eight-way power-adjustable front seats
- Keyless ignition
- Four-way driver lumbar adjustment
- Tilting and telescoping steering wheel
- Auto-dimming rearview mirror
- 40/20/40 split-folding rear seats
The seven-inch central display on top of the dash allows you to control the MMI infotainment system with ease. This advanced infotainment system offers advanced connectivity features such as Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Bluetooth Connectivity. Its 10-speaker premium audio system, two USB ports, and CD player allow you to have more fun when driving the A4 Allroad.
Premium Plus
Premium Plus adds a host of luxurious features on top of what the Premium offers. It has sleek LED headlights, power-folding and auto-dimming mirrors, and keyless entry and ignition. It is also safer as it offers front and rear parking sensors and Audi Connect services. Its heated front seats and the driver memory function further enhance the luxury inside the wagon. It upgrades to a 10-speaker system into a more powerful Bang & Olufsen sound system.
You can connect to satellite radio to further enjoy more when driving the A4 Allroad. The Allroad Premium Plus can integrate the Technology package. This package adds to the wagon a navigation system, a virtual instrument panel, and more Audi Connect services. With the package, you will have access to 4G LTE and Wi-Fi Hotspot connectivity.
You also get an advanced touchpad controller for the infotainment system and mobile apps for when you need direction or entertainment. Further, the package adds more safety features such as blind-spot monitoring, rear collision preparation, and rear cross-traffic alert.
Prestige Trim
This trim sits at the top of the range with all standard Premium Plus and Technology package features. The list of luxury and safety features on this trim is impressive. It has features such as a head-up display, ambient interior lighting, insulated front windows, and a surround-view camera. You can find these features on lower trims as options.
The Prestige trim is eligible for the Sport package. This package offers sporty front seats with a black headliner. It also integrates the Warm Weather package, which offers rear window sunshades and ventilated front sports seats. Further, the trim is also eligible for the Driver Assistance package, which offers lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, and automatic high beams.
Drivers can also choose the rear seat airbags, which are available as an option.
Under the Hood
The A4 Allroad sports a turbo 2.0L four-cylinder engine that generates 252 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. This engine pairs with a seven-speed automatic transmission, has a four-wheel drivetrain, and a standard Hill Descent control.
This engine allows the car to accelerate to 60 mph in only 5.9 seconds and according to the EPA, the engine offers a combined fuel economy of 25 mpg and 23/28 mpg city/highway.
Luxurious Interior
Most of the interior features on the Allroad are similar to the A4 sedan. Its sturdy design and construction and premium-quality materials give the wagon an edge in comparison with luxury cars. By placing the infotainment high on the dash, Audi ensured that the driver’s attention is always on the road. However, the MMI system will require getting used to, especially if you used the earlier system before 2017.
The optional virtual instrument panel adds high-tech features to the dash, but like the MMI system, you will need a few days to get the handle of it. However, once you use it for a few days, the operation will become second nature. There is abundant space for the front and rear passengers. It will comfortably accommodate those who are six feet tall in the rear seats. Unlike the sedan, the wagon has more headroom.
You can split the rear seats into three sections, giving you more passenger and cargo space. Behind the rear seats, the wagon accommodates up to 24.2 cubic feet of cargo. With the rear seats folded, the wagon accommodates up to 58.5 cubic feet of cargo.
Ratings and Performance
The U.S. News and World Report ranks the 2017 A4 Allroad position three out of five wagons. Further, the site gives the wagon a rating of 8.1 out of 10 for its interior, which is one of the strengths of the car. Models after the 2017 model have only bettered in technology and comfort. However, even earlier models still offer luxury and advanced technology features.
The 2017 A4 Allroad was IIHS’s Top Safety Pick. It received high ratings for roof strength, head restraints and seats, small overlap front for driver and passenger sides, and side safety. Further, the IIHS shows that the car has superior optional and standard safety systems. The NHTSA rated the Audi A4 sedan five stars out of the possible five for safety. Because the two cars share most of the features, the wagon will presumably have the same safety rating.
Further, the U.S. News gave the car a rating of 9.5 out of 10 for safety. The U.S. News considers the ratings from the NHTSA and the IIHS and also their crash tests. The car has no recalls, which means it has no major issues.
With all of the standard tech and safety features available, the Audi A4 Allroad is a great choice.
