Across the country, the month of June is celebrated as LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, in commemoration of the Stonewall riots, which occurred at the end of June, 1969. The Stonewall riots proved to be a tentpole moment in the fight for equality, galvanizing the LGBTQIA+ movement into what it has become today.

Now, in 2022, individuals, communities, and organizations have taken to celebrating Pride month and showing their support in various unique ways. In fact, a 2016 study from Harvard Business Review shows that 72% of LGBTQIA+ advocates claim to be more likely to accept a job at an organization that is supportive of LGBTIA+ employees than one that is not. What’s more—84% of LGBT employees at inclusive companies are significantly more likely to say they are proud to work for their employer and “go the extra mile” to achieve company success.

At Carvana, championing and advancing the causes of the LGBTQIA+ community has been a long standing mission for the company. More than 500 members and allies across more than 30 states comprise our fledging Carvana PRIDE Community—just one reflection of the many steps the company takes to foster an inclusive, diverse, and safe workplace that values everyone, no matter their location, vocation, or orientation.

We celebrate our differences and recognize that each unique person is what makes us stronger, more creative, and leads to success. LGBTQIA+ pride lives on at Carvana well beyond the confines of a calendar month. It is an expression that carries our teammates through the entire year, representing one of the most crucial elements of Carvana’s corporate culture. Throughout the month of June, the Carvana PRIDE Community hosted a variety of opportunities for connection, celebration, and self-expression, all across Carvana Country.

Throughout the month of June, Carvana team members were present at a wide array of different Pride events nationwide. From Milwaukee’s glamorous Pride parade to Sacramento’s, with Pride events in Kansas City, Rochester, Phoenix, Virginia Beach, and Buffalo in between, Carvana’s LGBTQIA+ pride was on full display at booths in some of the most festive locales across the U.S. Additionally, in celebration of Pride Month, Carvana illuminated all of our Car Vending Machines rainbow colored every Saturday for the entire month of June, lighting beacons of support across the country for everyone to enjoy.

For us, the imperative is to make sure all of our team members across the nation feel a sense of security—to be themselves, to produce work that reflects their potential, and to commune with like-minded individuals in safe spaces. Our Carvana PRIDE Community is a growing embodiment of that ideal, and with a successful 2022 Pride Month that saw our team hit multiple events across the country to show support to the global LGBTQIA+ community, we look forward to continuing to celebrate our differences and our strengths together, long after Pride Month 2022 ends.
