Taking the opportunity to give back and show appreciation to communities who have helped us grow and be a force of positive change in the automotive marketplace has long been a core belief at Carvana. Whether it’s volunteering at local animal shelters, donating supplies to local schools, or helping build a home for a family in need, we’ve always placed great importance on serving the community and giving back, along with going above and beyond to provide remarkable car buying experiences to customers.

Thanks to the Carvana Carpool Program, we’re now able to do even more for the growing number of areas and people that we serve. By rallying the support and enthusiasm of individuals who have enjoyed their experience with Carvana in the past, the Carvana Carpool Program is the perfect vehicle capable of delivering heartfelt and unforgettable moments to individuals and families who’ve had a tough run of luck.

Which brings us to Mr. Vadel Gray of Dunwoody, Georgia.

A long time and beloved custodian at Dunwoody Elementary School outside of Atlanta, Mr. Gray was left without a car following an accident, and was forced to wake up at 4:00 a.m. every day during the work week in order to catch the bus to get to work on time. His previous vehicle – a 1989 Chevrolet Celebrity – was formerly a character in the movie Miracles from Heaven due to its aged appearance. In fact, Mr. Gray’s dashboard was even personally signed by Queen Latifah, who co-starred in the film.

However, those days are officially over.

This past August, with parents, students, and faculty from Dunwoody Elementary cheering him on in support, Carvana showed its appreciation for Mr. Gray by presenting him with a 2015 Mazda 3 with the registration, taxes, and six months of insurance already paid for. This “Random Act of Carvana” served as the inaugural giveaway for our Carvana Carpool Referral Program, which rewards individuals who refer friends and family to Carvana for their vehicle purchases, and in turn, makes a charitable donation on the referral’s behalf to a person or family in need.

We had a terrific time participating in Mr. Gray’s surprise-filled day and it was an enormous and humbling pleasure to be able to give back in a meaningful way to a community we serve.
